Going Green With All Types of Greenery

It's no surprise that vibrant green will take center stage in landscaping this year. After all, Pantone declared Greenery the color of 2017. So instead of filling your yard with an assortment of colored flowers and plants, look to low maintenance shrubs like green velvet boxwood to give your outdoor space a subtle, but impactful update.

The Danish concept of hygge is all about creating an atmosphere of coziness by embracing the simple pleasures of life. And while it's been a big topic in interiors, hygee vibes also have a place in your outdoor space. Use light to add ambiance, arrange seating for close-knit conversation, plant aromatic flowers or add water features to integrate hygge into your landscapes.

Outdoor living is here to stay and exterior kitchens are playing a huge role. Well beyond basic grilling stations and dining sets, these full-scale kitchens marry the enjoyment of the great outdoors with indoor conveniences. Today's outdoor kitchens can be equipped with “smart home" technology like built-in consoles on refrigerator doors, mobile app-controlled LED lighting and Wi-Fi integrated ovens.

Mixed materials? Yes please. This year, take a more playful approach to landscaping and change things up with a mix of stone, wood and metals. Add iron railing and gates to a wooden deck or bookend a pebble path with stone planters.
