This One Interior Design Flaw Could Ruin Your Sleep, Claims Expert

Is this the case in your bedroom?

Getting the perfect night's sleep every night is our dream come true, let's be honest – but what if we told you the quality of your slumber could be negatively affected by something a little completely unexpected?

[post_ads]No, we're not talking about your diet or your tendency to spend the hour before bed scrolling through your Facebook feed, although it is a factor you do have some control over: your interior decor choices.

That's right: According to one expert, the way you choose to arrange your bedroom could have a huge impact on your sleep, the Independent reports.

And it's all down to the ancient art of Feng Shui. Speaking to lifestyle website MyDomaine, Feng Shui expert Laura Cerrano insists that many of us are guilty of a design flaw that could impact the quality of our sleep.

Apparently, one of the most important principles to follow when laying out your bedroom is to make sure that there is an equal distance on either side of your bed. The reason? "This is symbolic of creating equal space for you and your partner," says Cerrano.

Hmm, we wonder if this rule also applies when you're single and sleep starfish style ...

As well as this, you should apparently avoid having your bed pushed up against the wall. Of course, this may prove tricky is space is limited, but Cerrano insists that even an inch will make a huge difference.

When it comes to bedroom accessories, she also recommends having two bedside tables with lamps on them for balance — again, if you have the room.

On top of this, Cerrano recommends positioning your bed so that it faces the door, but is not completely aligned with it. "This allows the occupant to literally, energetically and metaphorically see and feel who and what opportunities are approaching their life," she explains.

And, for those of us lucky enough to have an en-suite bathroom, the same rule applies: avoiding aligning your bed directly with the bathroom door to stop your energy draining from the room.

To be frank, we'll confess to being a little skeptical about all this, but if room allows and it might give you a more restful night's sleep, then we guess it might be worth a try!
