It’s October, which means Halloween costumes are most likely top of mind. Of course, the spooky holiday is even more fun when the entire family gets involved, donning crazy outfits to go trick or treating around town. With that in mind, we’ve whipped up five mommy and me costume ideas that range from classic and goofy to witty and sophisticated. Take your pick! (And let us know your own ideas in the comments below!)
Grace Coddington + Cat
This one's for all of the fashion fans out there. Try going as Vogue's famed, beloved, and fiery-maned Creative Director, Grace Coddington, and dress the kids as cats (Grace is known for her love of felines).
Zoo Animals
It's a classic theme that the entire family can easily get down with, and allows for a hodgepodge of costumes. Plus, who doesn't love a child dressed as something furry with ears? (Sidenote: Asos has a curiously strong selection of men's animal-print onesies in drop-crotch silhouettes. Who knew!)
The Royal Tenenbaums
Wes Anderson's hipster classic, The Royal Tenenbaums, includes so many memorable ensembles. Our favorites include the tennis-playing, red-tracksuited Chas Tenenbaum (Ben Stiller) and Margot Tenenbaum (Gwyneth Paltrow), known for her heavy eyeliner, fur coat, and red barrette. Add other characters as your family sees fit!
Lobster + Chef
We're not sure which family made this one up (we can't take credit), but it's a good one. Dress as a chef (chances are, you won't need to buy anything extra), and if you have a small-enough baby, dress him as a lobster and carry him around in a pot. We guarantee you'll get lots of laughs.
Mister Rodgers
Dust off your favorite cardigans (and ties), throw on some hand puppets, and your matching Mister Rodgers costumes are complete! Especially good for a last-minute costume fix.
