I'm not a fan of new year's resolutions but since it's NYE today I
thought why not list some important things to do in the coming
year. Since you're on my column
and you know it's all about your home office, that's what I've centered
these resolutions around. If you're looking for some to make on your
own just think of three things you want to change about your home office
or about working from home.
1. Keeping things clean + organized
While keeping your space germ free is
a super important, keeping your workspace free of clutter is just as
important. You don't need to be a neat freak but taking a few minutes
before and after work to put some things away will do you good in the
long run. I'm not perfectly organized at all but I do make sure to keep
my desk free from clutter. Mainly because I have in the past missed
deadlines or forgot important work assignments because I misplaced my
post-it.
2. Changing up the space
It's a new year after all so what better what to start fresh than with freshening up your space.
You don't need to go crazy and replace all your
furniture (unless you really want to) but think about giving your
desktop a refresh with some new accessories or adding some wall decals.
Sometimes I won't buy anything new when I want to make a change and
instead I'll change the entire layout of the room instead. It's easy to
do, free and I don't have to worry about anything with my landlord since
all I'm doing is moving things around
3. One new work habit
Think
of one thing you are doing every day for work that you should be doing
differently or better. Or maybe it's a really bad habit you have that
wastes half your day, resolve to change this in the new year. Don't make
a list of 5 habits to change but start with ONE and stick to it for 21
days. Numerous studies have shown that's all it takes to get into the
groove of things and since you only have one habit to change it should
be easier. For me, I noticed I was spending way too much time on
instagram and that's something I've decided to change.
