After prom dresses have been sought, purchased, and worn, do you ever stop to wonder what everyone else looks like at their school events? Perhaps you and all your friends tend to go short, but those across the country are reaching for floor-length. Maybe your bright hues are contrasted by the black and white looks of others. Or it could be that all of your peers drop astronomical amounts of money on the most epic gown, knowing others tend to shop for more affordable options.
[post_ads]Thanks to Yahoo! Style, we now know just that, as the publication ran a survey that tracked not only how much each part of the country was spending on their prom dresses, but also what kind of look we are all reaching for, and even how much prom night tickets tend to cost.
For example, the Northeast part of the country tends to spend an average of $699.56 on their prom dress. That’s the highest overall for each area surveyed. Those girls most often reach for a column dress style (at 31%), and they pay roughly $63.71 for a ticket to the event, compared to $24.56 in the Midwest. That’s nearly three times more.
Southern girls most often reach for a princess dress, reflected in the preference of 30% of the population. This dress style is also the most popular in the Midwest, though a whopping 38% of the population there reaches for the classic style.

The prom attendance rate in the South is also the highest in the country, reaching 76%. What do those Southern Belles spend their money on, though? Hair and makeup. The prepping for these girls averages $57.18, which is the most spent on primping in the country. In contrast, teens in the West spend most of their money on accessories, averaging $73.81.
