It's almost 2016, and we have the ability to pay for our venti iced lattes with our smartphones, find movie times by saying, "Hey, Siri," and can even use scanners to find our foundation shades. And while these devices and apps can match you to existing foundation colors, those of us with hard-to-match skin tones are still left with shades that aren't quite right, skewing too light or too dark, too cool or too warm, too red or too yellow. A newly launched app called MatchCo, however, aims to fix this beauty conundrum and take the beauty tech game to a whole new level.
[post_ads]MatchCo uses your smartphone's camera to get an exact read of your skin tone. To start, you must calibrate the app. To do that, lightly tap your camera against a piece of white paper, which will ensure that you're able to use the tool in pretty much any indoor lighting—the makers of the app recommend steering clear of harsh outdoor light, which can alter the results. You must then scan both sides of your wrist (which helps read undertones), as well as your cheeks and forehead. Yes, you'll look pretty silly bouncing your phone against your forehead, but we promise it only takes a few seconds! And if this all sounds hard to keep straight, don't worry. The whole two-minute process is easily instructed—and illustrated—by an ASMR-inducing British lady.
Next comes the coolest part. The foundation fairies at MatchCo HQ take your results straight from the app and custom mix your perfect foundation shade, which will then be delivered to you. And these guys take color matching seriously. While developing the app, they scanned more than 500 people over a two-year period. Not only did they create the perfect match in 98 percent (that's 490 people!) of the cases, they also found that no two shades they mixed were the same.

The app is free in the Apple Store, but a bottle of foundation—which will have your name on it—will set you back $49.
