If there’s one thing we’ve learned from chevron, it’s that home trends they come and home trends they go...to the Goodwill. Here, eight decor decisions that are headed the way of the avocado shag rug.
BOOKLESS BOOKSHELVES
That hyper-stylized, hyper-minimalist look where you’ve got few (if any) books actually on your bookshelves? Decidedly on the outs, folks. (Bring back the books!)
LUCITE FURNITURE
This decor mascot of contemporary preppiness is looking pretty darn tired these days. (Blame the blogosphere.) Look to natural woven pieces like wickers and rattans for equally breezy but also timeless vibes.
WHITE AND STAINLESS KITCHENS
This safe pairing was the de facto go-to for post-recession kitchen renos. But these days, you need not go boring and monochrome to feel classic. Consider painting your cabinets a bolder neutral—like navy or matte black—and mixing in some warm-toned hardware (helloooo, aged brass drawer pulls.)
WALLPAPER ACCENT WALLS
Let’s be honest here: One wall of paper feels like an abandoned experiment. Go maximalist (all four walls, baby) to keep your space looking modern.
FARMHOUSE KITSCH
Fixer Upper is over (boo hoo). But #bless, so are giant clocks and faux-rustic signage.
TERRARIUMS
Mini succulent gardens in geometric casing had their moment. But they’re looking very “college dorm room circa 2010” nowadays.
THE UNMADE BED
Hygge-chic? So 2016. What’s haute for the year ahead? Making your bed like a grown-ass woman, damnit.
