Gorgeous Paint Colors That Are Winning 2019 So Far

These colors will make you want to pick up a paintbrush.

By Katie Holdefehr, Real Simple

Before the start of the New Year, paint pros and trend experts put in their predictions for the top paint color trends of 2019. Pinterest foresaw mustard yellow and painted geometric patterns, while Pantone crowned a bright coral hue the Color of the Year, and Benjamin Moore opted for a sophisticated shade of gray. With so many varied predictions, only time would tell which colors would really stand out as favorites. Now that we're more than a month into 2019, we're taking a look at the paint colors that actually seem to be taking over our homes (and Instagram feeds!) so far this year. A few trends have emerged, with moody blues and elegant greens showing up everywhere. And while millennial pink has been trendy for a while now, blush pink doesn't seem to be going anywhere in 2019. Here's a look at some of the paint colors that appear to be pulling into the lead early—and we'll revisit these hues later in the year to see if they finish 2019 as strong as they started it.

When designer and stylist Emily Henderson revealed the jaw-dropping results of her recent Portland project, we couldn't stop obsessing over the elegant green kitchen. A rich green with hints of blue and gray, this complex color makes an otherwise neutral space really sparkle. And don't miss this closeup of the hue on the pantry doors. Want to brush the exact same shade on your own kitchen cabinets? It's Pewter Green by Sherwin-Williams.

Jenny Komenda from Juniper Studio isn't afraid to use a moody hue in the bedroom—in fact, on her blog, she's even written about the merits of black walls in the bedroom. The trick to preventing the space from feeling too gloomy is to paint just one accent wall behind the bed, while leaving the others white. The effect is dramatic but without being a mood-ruiner.

If there's one paint color trend that seems to be everywhere right now, it's rich shades of blue and green. Case in point, this deep teal tone spotted on designer Dabito's Instagram account. Behr's Forest Edge looks even more magnificent when photographed in afternoon light and paired with shiny brass hardware.

This stylish kitchen feels like the perfect bridge between two major color trends we're seeing right now: complicated blues and greens, and the continuation of pale pink everything. The pop of patterned backsplash in between doesn't hurt either. Dabito made over this guest house kitchen as part of the One Room Challenge. Curious which hues make up this flawless pink-and-green combo? It's Behr's Fig Tree, paired with One to Remember.

Interior designer Nicole Gibbons swiped a whisper-soft shade of pink (it's Wing It by Clare) on the walls of this baby nursery for The Sill's Founder and CEO Eliza Blank. We see this delicate shade working beautifully as a neutral in plenty of grownup spaces, too. Consider it for a bedroom or powder room.

Looking for something a little brighter and more vibrant than the rich blues and greens we're seeing in 2019? Light shades of aqua are also surfacing. Get inspired by this scene in artist and designer Malene B's beautiful home.
