3 Signs It Might Be Time to Swallow Your Pride and Seek Help

Self-reliance is a good thing but you sometimes it's not much you can do for you. Here are some signs when you need to stop being proud and seek for others help.

3 Signs It Might Be Time to Swallow Your Pride and Seek Help

It’s probably fair to say that most people, most of the time, would much rather try and resolve their own problems by themselves, without the input and assistance of anyone else.

There is something in all of us that tends to resist help, and that yearns to be as self-reliant as possible. Of course, self-reliance is a good thing. But it’s also the case that there are all sorts of situations that can arise in life, where a single individual might not be able to come up with a solution of their own, and may in fact need the help of others.

Here are a few signs it might be time to swallow your pride and seek help.

You have a medical condition or physical ailment that’s getting worse, and that’s diminishing your quality of life

There are all sorts of medical ailments and conditions out there that can be more or less ignored and “brushed under the rug” in the early stages, but that become increasingly more debilitating as they progress, to the point where they need serious intervention sooner or later.

If you have a medical condition or physical ailment that is getting worse, and that’s significantly diminishing your quality of life, you owe it to yourself to do your research and seek out whatever form of help you feel is most appropriate.

If your hearing has been steadily deteriorating, for example, you might need hearing aids – and refusing to get them (as many individuals with hearing loss do, for years), is likely only going to make things worse for you.

You feel as though you’re at a “dead end,” and you have no idea where to turn next

Sometimes, when you’re faced by particular dilemmas and challenges in life, you will more or less “know” what needs to be done – and it will just be a matter of applying the consistent work required to actually move things forward.

But, there are also situations where you may well feel as though you’re at a “dead end,” and where you have no idea where to turn next – but know that something has to change, all the same.

If you find yourself at a dead end, it’s often the case that one of the best things to do is to have a deep and meaningful chat with other people, who may be able to offer you fresh insight.

Sometimes, all you need is an insightful word in order to get back on the right track.

There are particular issues that keep preoccupying your attention, that you just can’t stop thinking about, no matter how hard you try

There are all sorts of things that might end up “haunting” you in life – for want of a better word. Poor decisions made in past, opportunities you didn’t seize upon, and so on.

If there are particular issues that keep preoccupying your attention, and that you just can’t stop thinking about no matter how hard you try, however, that’s likely a sign that there’s some unresolved trauma or an unlearned lesson there to be dealt with.

Seeking out help – particularly from a trained therapist – may be essential in terms of allowing you to get past these issues, and to return to living a fulfilling and present life.
