A perfectly folded shirt not only looks great in your dresser drawers or on your closet shelves, but also keeps pesky wrinkles at bay—and helps you save space. After all, no one wants a just-laundered garment to look like it's already been worn. If hanging simple pieces, like T-shirts, feels unnecessary, folding your your go-to tees is an ideal alternative. Here, we're sharing an easy folding technique that will have your clothes looking fresh long after you place them in the drawer or on the shelf.
As for how to fold a shirt? It's surprisingly simple: All you need is a clean and clear work space. Begin by laying a T-shirt horizontally and face-up in front of you with the neck on the right-hand side. Using both hands—and our template—pinch the shirt on the side opposite you at two points: With one hand at the shoulder, midway between the sleeve and the neck, and the other halfway down the shirt, parallel to your other hand.

While holding the two points, cross your right hand over your left, bringing the shoulder down to meet the shirt's bottom hem, and grab the hem. Lift the shirt so it hangs in front of you. Uncross your arms without letting go of the shirt and pull the fold taut as you do so. Place the hanging sleeve on the work surface, and neatly drape the folded portion over to finish.
A flawlessly folded T-shirt is a dependable way to stay organized both at home and on the go—better yet, stick to our folding method, and you'll be able to save space in your drawers (the process leaves pieces in their most compact form). Practice your newfound folding technique when packing for the gym or even your next vacation and continue to look fresh and wrinkle-free wherever you go.
