1. Fall candles

You can never have too many candles when setting the mood for fall. Not only do they visually signify comfort and warmth, but scented candles immediately set the tone for the cooler months. They'll also go perfectly on your nightstand or dresser for cozy nights curled up with a book or seasonal movie.

There are tons of options for what scents you can get for your bedroom. According to Stone Candles, some of the best and most seasonal ones include pumpkin, clove, cinnamon, apple, maple, pecan pie, sandalwood, firewood, and spicy clementine, as well as any combination of the above scents. If you don't want to burn candles, consider a wax melt with any of the listed fragrances. Other options include a reed diffuser and even oil diffusers. For some added coziness, consider burning scentless candles for additional fall ambiance. You can also opt for remote-controlled fake candles.

2. Pumpkin décor

There is nothing more quintessentially fall than a pumpkin. While they're most often used to decorate the exterior of your home, there's no rule saying you can't bring them inside — just make sure you don't let them rot if you're using real pumpkins. The simplest way to use them to decorate your bedroom would be to place a couple on your nightstand or dresser.

There are plenty of creative options when it comes to decorating with pumpkins, though. For example, if you have lots of random containers and baskets lying around, consider filling them with real or fake pumpkins, per Clean and Scentsible. If your bedroom has an empty fireplace, you could fill it with pumpkins, too. Bookshelves, ladders, or regular shelves would also look great, with a few miniature pumpkins dotted throughout. You can also use old candlesticks to display smaller pumpkins in a unique way.

3. Fall flowers

If you want to add brightness and fragrance to your bedroom, consider keeping a vase full of fresh-cut flowers either by your bedside or somewhere in the room. To make it autumnal, opt for in-season fall flowers. There are plenty to choose from, and they change by the month so you won't run out of options.

One of the more classic fall flowers is the sunflower, which is still in its last bloom cycle as summer turns to fall, according to Ode À La Rose. In September, keep your eyes out for chrysanthemums, violas, petunias, asters, and black-eyed Susans. Roses are particularly stunning come October, as are crocuses, coneflowers, hibiscus, lavender, and honeysuckle. Options become a little more limited in November, but three flowers that are still usually blooming strong are coronilla, pansies, and geraniums. You can also opt for a mix of fake flowers with straw or other artificial plants.

4. Lots of pillows and blankets

An essential aspect of creating the perfect, cozy fall bedroom is having plenty of blankets and pillows. Throw blankets and pillows are also a great way to easily add some fall colors and texture to your bedroom, including shades of orange, yellow, cream, and knit and quilted textures.

The most straightforward way to decorate with a throw blanket on your bed is to don it over one corner at the foot of the bed, according to Style by Emily Henderson. You can do this by neatly folding and layering multiple complementary throws or simply messily laying it at the end of the bed. Other options for displaying throw blankets in your bedroom for fall include draping them over the back or arm of an armchair, a bedroom bench, or sticking out of a basket, per Brookside. You can also use a blanket ladder to display multiple blankets. Consider adding decorative throw pillows to your bedspread to compliment and tie in the blankets.

5. String lights

While candles create an ambiance in your bedroom for the fall season, odds are they won't be strong enough. Ideally, you should have multiple soft, dim light sources to create a cozy, almost glowing atmosphere. An easy way to add some of that soft, warm light is through string lights. If stringing lights around your room's walls seems a little too basic, consider some fun alternatives.

One great idea from iSparkle is to use curtain string lights to create a faux headboard or to add some sparkle to the one you already have. Either tack them to the top of the wall above your bed and tuck them behind your headboard or staple them to your headboard to give it some glow. Alternatively, consider placing the lights under your bed. If you have a low-lying, pallet-style bed frame, this is as simple as wrapping the lights around the exterior.
