So you’ve committed to dry January and enjoyed your final glass of
bubbles, signed up to the latest fitness fad at the gym, you’ve even
bought a juicer to make your own green juices at home. So what’s left to
prepare for a cracking 2014? Your style resolutions. Take inspiration
from the spring/summer 2014 shows for a more stylish wardrobe in the New
 Year.
Florals
Ditch frumpy floral frocks and chintzy prints for 2014; florals are
supercharged, from scientific to 3D. Choose a standout floral instead.
Go for an easy-to-wear statement sweater teamed with a pencil or midi
skater skirt. Invest in your florals for the New Year as cheap looks
cheap when it comes to this forever trend.
Sheer
It was hard to avoid the sheer nip-exposing looks on the SS14
catwalks, spotted everywhere from Burberry to Dolce & Gabbana,
but add a bra and sheer is very wearable. Be adventurous in 2014 and try
this trend with a sheer panelled skirt or go for the safe option and
wear a shirt with a pretty bra or vest top underneath.
Pastels
Embrace colour in 2014, particularly candied pastels. Feminine hues
of mint and candy floss were present in various textures on the
catwalks. The high street will do this trend well (try Topshop, ASOS and
M&S) so it is an easy New Year’s resolution to make and keep. Try
matching your top and bottoms. If you are feeling particularly
adventurous you can even match your shoes too – this will score you
massive fashion points in the New Year but is not for the fainthearted.
Metallics
Add a touch of luxury to your wardrobe in the New Year without
blowing the budget by buying into the metallic trend. Glamourous golds
and shimmering silvers with sharp tailoring and clean lines will add
sophistication to your look. This is a great way to add something new to
your evening wardrobe so look for easy-to-wear dresses, or just add a
touch to your outfit with a pair of statement metallic heels.
Pleats
Mini, midi, maxi – whatever length you prefer, just make sure it’s
pleated for 2014. For the New Year, why don’t you pledge to wear jeans
less and swap them for a pleated skirt instead? Whistles and Zara will
your best bet on the high street. These look great with flats – brogues
for early spring and sandals when the weather warms up.
Hopefully, these New Year’s resolutions will be easy to keep… Wishing you a stylish 2014!
